The Beauty of Nature

I am not too sure if anyone has noticed. Plants cools the estate. I grew up in a small, matured and very happening estate of Boon Lay. It is a very "colorful" place.

We lived facing the main road (which actually is not very big la) and have a huge open space right in front of our block. Apparently, as observed by WEP much later, our block of flats also marks the turning point for fighter planes returning home , and flying out from their nearby base. So the roaring sound of planes have been the humming sound of my childhood. Okay, I am definitely drifting off course now.

There are loads of old, huge trees all around the estate, and our flat is often cool, and cold when there is a storm. Wind hitting our windows and doors are common occurence.

We moved out of this beautiful flat in quest of a "bigger" apartment when I started working. My mum wanted some new perspective of life which she concluded can be attained by a new flat. Duh....I know.

So we moved into a new estate and though it is not too far off from where we were living, the place was constantly warm, even after loads of heavy downfall. It just wasn't pleasant at all. Years later, the apartment actually became cooler than before and I observed at about the same time, the plants and trees that were first planted as landscape to the estate seem to look settled in, seem to have taken root to its new home. But then this is only 1 observation.

Recently, I moved again to a far away land of Sengkang where everyone who attempts their journey here and not get lost are considered a genius. It is another new estate, and no rain seem to cool down the place. There used to be a huge grassland in front of our block, which really cools our apartment, but this of course will have to give rise to more residential apartments. So gone is our view of the mental hospital (which was really serene, believe it or not) and gone too was the nice cool weather.

I am just hoping the trees take root quicker and the eco system will speed up their process of creating their very important community so that I can enjoy the cool weather which nature brings. Sad to say, nature cannot be hurried.

I hope we start to think before cutting down the trees in our quest to get more model, newer, more classy buildings. Buildings are easily built (of course, it still take time, effort and lots of brain skill to have a good one), but trees, grass, plants do not grow and take root as we wish.

As depicted in the animated movie, Wall E, I do hope that we do not come to the day where the small bean sprout plant becomes the only rare and precious sight. And really without nature, we will have no diamonds, non gold or even fuel for our daily lives.

As clinque as some of those "Save our Earth" ads may look, they really are NOT.

Let's us embrace the beauty that is first given to us to enjoy, where it is nutured from the heavens above. And let's remember our first calling of looking after the garden of Eden, because the nature around us, really is our garden of Eden.
